Freelander used a 19 October briefing in Wuhu to put a five-seat Freelander 8 beside the six-seat model and to name a window for the United Arab Emirates. TimesLIVE and Day of Dubai both reported the following day that the SUV is expected to reach UAE customers in the first quarter of 2027. The Middle East specification in those reports is a plug-in hybrid: a petrol engine, a battery, and two electric motors driving all four wheels.
The badge revives a compact Land Rover from 1997. Jaguar Land Rover leads the design, Chery supplies the technology and the supply chain, and the car is sold under its own marque. Its international debut was in Abu Dhabi on 29 September, with the UAE as the first market beyond that launch. Al Tayer Motors covers Dubai and the Northern Emirates, and Premier Motors covers Abu Dhabi, a split both the October GlobeNewswire roadmap and Day of Dubai still describe. Day of Dubai also reported partner signings that night with EK Kanoo Group in Bahrain and Saud Bahwan Group in Oman.

On the Middle East plug-in hybrid, TimesLIVE and Autoblog agree: a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, a 34.12 kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery, dual-motor all-wheel drive, 460 kW and 662 Nm, a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 5.8 seconds, 110 km of electric range and 886 km combined with a full tank and a full battery. Both range figures are combined-cycle claims. Both outlets also quote a DC charge from 20 to 80 percent in about 20 minutes. TimesLIVE alone adds AC charging at up to 11 kW. Day of Dubai, relaying the company, said specification, price, space and service detail would be set out closer to the UAE launch. A UAE dirham price is still unpublished in the reports that agree on that launch window.
Buyers comparing a large plug-in SUV already on sale in the Emirates can open the Range Rover P550e on the UAE market page. Chery’s Tiggo 9 Super Hybrid is a separate model on the plug-in hybrid list, listed as available in the UK. The Land Rover and Chery pages, and the SUV body type, are the live hubs around this story. After the UAE and other left-hand-drive markets, both TimesLIVE and Day of Dubai describe a second phase aimed at right-hand-drive countries, with Australia and New Zealand named first, and a third phase that reaches continental Europe and then the UK and Ireland.
Phil Simmons, who worked on the original Freelander and spoke in Wuhu as executive vice president of the Freelander design hub, called the new SUV “bigger, more modern and more premium,” Day of Dubai reported. TimesLIVE and Day of Dubai both describe a Qualcomm SA8295P cockpit, a 46.3-inch display under the windscreen, and Level 2+ driver assistance as standard. TimesLIVE also lists a 15.6-inch central touchscreen. The cabin photograph below is the same class of showroom car as the exterior shot: a wide display and a central screen, not a captioned image of the five-seat Middle East debut.

Autoblog describes a different extended-range drivetrain on the China-market Freelander 8, built around a 1.5-litre engine. That home-market setup is separate from the Middle East plug-in hybrid figures above, and a Chinese guide price is not a UAE price.
