Dubai is testing a lighter-touch way to expand EV charging in the UAE: portable pods that plug into residential communities without the civil works and electrical upgrades that slow fixed charger rollouts.
Dubai Holding Community Management announced on 23 July 2026 a partnership with PlusX Electric to deploy self-contained charging pods across communities it manages for Nakheel, Meraas, and Dubai Properties. Unlike permanent wallboxes or destination chargers tied to mall parking decks, PlusX’s pods are designed to operate without new permanent electrical infrastructure or major construction. Residents get priority access to on-demand charging at their community — a model aimed at apartment and villa owners who lack dedicated parking with pre-wired chargers.
Francis Giani, CEO of Dubai Holding Community Management, framed the move as a practical response to evolving mobility needs within existing communities while supporting Dubai’s broader sustainability goals. PlusX founder Chintan Sareen said the technology is meant to reduce the complexity that often blocks EV adoption in dense residential settings.
The announcement sits alongside other UAE charging momentum this month. ENOC Group and EVS Electric Vehicle Services are rolling out EVS Express service points at four ENOC stations across Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, and Al Ain — pairing fuel-station convenience with EV-specific maintenance support. DEWA and Dubai Taxi Company also continue expanding ultra-fast hubs for the emirate’s electric taxi fleet, part of a longer-term plan for more than 200 dedicated high-power points.
